DEPRESSION IS a LIE - a Podcast Series With Dustin TavellaSample

Let’s Get Real:
Today’s video was a little shorter, but deep—if you let it sink in.
Here’s the bottom line:
We are all vessels. We’re all filled with something.
Whether we realize it or not, our hearts, minds, and souls are constantly soaking things in. So the question is: what are we choosing to fill ourselves with?
What Are You Drinking?
Imagine that you're a cup—and every day, you’re getting poured into.
Some of it’s sweet. Some of it’s bitter. Some of it’s straight-up toxic.
The stuff we consume matters.
The things we scroll past on social media.
The music we listen to.
The shows we binge.
The conversations we entertain.
The voices we let have our attention.
All of that? That’s what’s going in your cup. That’s what you’re drinking.
And eventually—that’s what you’ll start to pour out.
It’s All Connected
Whether you struggle with depression or not, whether your mental health battles are loud or subtle, this truth still applies to all of us:
We’re all spilling over with something.
What’s in you is coming out of you.
So when I look at my own life, I have to ask the hard questions:
- What have I allowed to fill me?
- Who have I given too much access to my thoughts?
- Have I surrounded myself with voices that pull me toward truth—or away from it?
- Am I pouring out life… or something else?
I’ve let negative voices take up space in my heart.
I’ve let people influence my values in ways I never meant to.
I’ve filled up on empty things and then wondered why I felt so purposeless.
But here’s the good news: we get to choose what we fill ourselves with. And that’s exciting.
Choose What You Carry
You can start today.
Make it your mission to fill yourself with hope-filled things.
Not just for you—but for others too.
Let this be fun. Let it be intentional. Let it be life-giving.
Let’s Flip the Script
Here are a few ways to start filling yourself with life this week aside from just reading your bible:
- 🎶 Create a “Life-Giving” playlist full of worship and christian music.
- 💬 Share a Bible verse that reminded you of something good with a friend or family member.
- ✍️ Make a “Truth List” of scriptures and things the Bible says about you to speak out loud when lies creep in.
- 📵 Put down your phone for a while and go talk to someone—like, really talk.
- 🌿 Go outside and just thank God for what’s in front of you..
- 🗣 Start a conversation with someone who might need encouragement—and watch how much it encourages you too.
- 🧼 Do a “soul detox.” Ask yourself honestly: What voices or content do I need to cut out?
You were made to carry good things.
Now fill up—and start pouring that goodness out.
Prayer You Can Pray:
God, I want to be filled with what’s good. Help me recognize the things in my life that are toxic or empty and give me the strength to walk away from them. I want to be a vessel of Your truth, Your joy, and Your love. Fill me up and use me to pour life out onto the people around me. Amen.
Bottom Line:
You are always being filled with something.
Be intentional. Be hopeful. And fill your life with what you want to overflow.
