DAY 4 OF 6

Day 4: Galatians 4

Have you ever felt like you were part of a group, like you really belonged? Maybe you earned a spot on a sports team or auditioned for a part in a play and made it. In the last session, we learned that we are now part of the family of God. We belong—but not by our own merit. Jesus has brought us into the family of God by His grace.

Reflect

Despite being fully divine, Jesus Christ took on human flesh and subjected Himself to the full experience of human life. How does the truth that Jesus took on flesh influence the way you think about him? In what ways should it give you confidence to turn to Him in times of need?

Kyle explained how the gospel of Jesus Christ has given us a new identity such that we are now sons and daughters of God. While that’s a hard reality to fathom, it should change the way we live in profound ways. In what ways do you struggle to live in your identity as a son or daughter of God? What practical steps could you take to remind yourself that, by God’s grace, you belong in God’s family?

Respond

It’s easy to fall back into the habit of living according to a moral law as if we have to continually audition for and earn our spot in God’s family. Doing so may feel more practical or measurable, but it removes the necessity of faith. Instead, we should cast off anything that causes us to depart from our dependence on Christ and remember that, by His grace, Christ will keep us.

Today, spend an extended amount of time in prayer, praising God for bringing you into His family. Ask Him to grow your understanding of your identity as His child and to live each day functioning as a member of His family.

About this Plan

The Book of Galatians With Kyle Idleman: A 6-Day RightNow Media Devotional

If someone asked you to explain the gospel, what would you say? Writing to the Galatians, Paul made it clear how easily we can be tempted to turn toward fraudulent gospels, especially those that teach we can earn God’s love through our works. In this six-day devotional study, Kyle Idleman dives into the book of Galatians, one that contains some of the clearest explanations of the gospel in the New Testament. True freedom is found in surrender, not self-dependence. Because our gospel is not one based on our works, but faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ.
