DAY 1 OF 6

Day 1: Galatians 1

Have you ever felt trapped? Maybe you were stuck in traffic or a job with no growth potential. What emotions did you experience? How did you feel when you finally experienced “freedom”?

Sometimes we can feel stuck in our Christian walk—even though Jesus calls us to live a free life. As we’ll learn in today’s devotional, when we lose sight of what it means to live free, the book of Galatians can help.

Reflect

A relationship with Jesus Christ changes us. By nature, we are drawn to sin, but through faith in Christ, we are set free from sin’s power. In what specific ways has your faith in Christ freed you from the power of sin?

The first chapter of Galatians confronts our doubts about the gospel, arguing that the gospel is trustworthy because it is a message from God Himself demonstrated through a long history of life transformation around the world. How have you been transformed by the gospel? In what ways has the gospel transformed other Christians you know?

Respond

Our natural inclinations as humans trend toward works—toward legalism. We drift toward the lie that says we must play an active role in achieving and maintaining our salvation. But only faith in Christ can ensure our righteousness before God. By believing in Christ, God counts the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus as our own. And that gives us hope—and freedom—in this life and the next.

Today, spend some time praising God for the gospel as you pray. Thank Him for saving you and pray for opportunities to share the gospel with others.

About this Plan

The Book of Galatians With Kyle Idleman: A 6-Day RightNow Media Devotional

If someone asked you to explain the gospel, what would you say? Writing to the Galatians, Paul made it clear how easily we can be tempted to turn toward fraudulent gospels, especially those that teach we can earn God’s love through our works. In this six-day devotional study, Kyle Idleman dives into the book of Galatians, one that contains some of the clearest explanations of the gospel in the New Testament. True freedom is found in surrender, not self-dependence. Because our gospel is not one based on our works, but faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ.
