The Psalms

DAY 17 OF 27

DAY 17 – PSALMS 87-90

“The Lord said, 'I have made a covenant with David,

my chosen servant.

I have sworn this oath to him:

‘I will establish your descendants as kings forever;

they will sit on your throne from now until eternity.’

”Interlude”

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭89‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ ‭

In 2 Samuel 7:12-16, we see the first mention of God’s covenant with David, reaffirmed in 1 Chronicles 17:11-14—declaring that David’s lineage would continue to rule, that an eternal King, Jesus, would fulfill the Davidic covenant, and that no matter what, God’s promises to Israel would remain intact through Him.

Psalm 89 provides the third mention of this significant covenant, reflecting on God’s unfailing love and faithfulness.

Even in the midst of failure, delay, lack, and dead ends, God’s promises remain unshakable. He holds eternal power and authority to open and close doors that no one else can. Through Jesus’ first coming, part of the Davidic covenant was fulfilled, but it will reach its full realization at His return when He rules visibly and eternally.

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for being the fulfillment of all God’s promises. Connect my heart to the greater storyline of God, and strengthen me to not grow weary in doing good as I seek You and eagerly await Your second coming. Amen.

About this Plan

The Psalms

The Psalms teach us to pray, worship, and be honest before God, expressing every joy, struggle, and question. They shape our faith, pointing to Jesus, who prayed and fulfilled them. Embracing them daily cultivates a life of worship, rooted in God’s Word. In this 27-day plan, we’ll journey through how to navigate both the trials and triumphs of life while awaiting our Lord’s return. Each day includes a short devotional, 2-3 key verses, a thought to ponder, and a closing prayer.
