The Psalms

DAY 1 OF 27

DAY 1— PSALMS 1-8

In this 27-day plan, we’ll journey through how to navigate both the trials and triumphs of life while eagerly awaiting our Lord’s return. Each day we will begin with a short devotional that includes 2-3 key verses from that day’s reading, a brief thought to ponder, and a prayer to end.

The Psalms are not just ancient poetry; they are the heartbeat of our spiritual lives. By reading them daily, we immerse ourselves in the depth of human emotion and divine truth. They teach us how to pray, worship, and be honest before God. These sacred songs have shaped the worship and devotion of God’s people for centuries.

Throughout all 150 chapters, we find every emotion and struggle we face. They give voice to what we sometimes cannot articulate and express our deepest thoughts, offering trust in God, cries for justice, repentance, and unshakable hope.

Engaging with the Psalms roots us in the spiritual rhythms of God’s people. When we read them daily, we join countless believers who have poured out their hearts to God through these words. They remind us that God welcomes our honesty, praise, doubts, and thanksgiving.

Ultimately, the Psalms align our hearts with God’s and point us to Jesus, who prayed and fulfilled them. Neglecting them means losing touch with a language of faith that has sustained the church for millennia.

Today we begin our journey reading Psalms 1-8.

“Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,

nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;

but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.”

Psalm 1:1-2

Prayer: Father, while I eat the nourishment of Your word over the next 27 days, would You cause great delight to bubble up and make my heart glad as I meditate on it day and night? I receive the blessing available to those who delight in Your ways and truth. Amen.
