The Perfect Picture
God gave humanity its first hint that something momentous would take place, something that would be Heaven's response to humanity's fall. It would culminate in a showdown between Satan's forces and a special seed (or descendant) who would be wounded but would eventually emerge victorious.
Now we fast forward to a point in time when God's plan comes into greater focus. The Israelites were enslaved in Egypt. Pharaoh refused to release them, so God sent a plague to persuade him. Every firstborn child of every household was killed. But the Lord also provided a way of escape. Each household was to take a lamb, kill it, and place its blood on the posts of their front door. God promised that when He saw the lamb's blood, He would "pass over" their home, and they would escape His judgment.
Bit by bit, the puzzle pieces of God's plan were falling into place, and this would prove to be the most graphic picture of how He would deal with man's sin. Notice that it all revolved around a lamb that would be killed, and whose blood would be the thing to save people from God's impending judgment.
All of this occurred about 1,500 years before Jesus was born, yet it's the perfect picture of who He was and what He would do. He would be the Lamb that was killed on the cross. His blood would be shed and it would cause God to "pass over" those who deserved judgment. The parallel is so profound that "the Lamb" becomes one of Christ's most significant titles (John 1:29, Acts 8:32, 1 Peter 1:19, Revelation 5:6), and it all traces back to the perfect picture we see in Exodus 12.
But the Lord also provided a way of escape. By the lamb's blood,we escape God's judgment.

What does this passage reveal to me about myself?
Based on this, what changes do I need to make?
What is my prayer for today?
