Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale Daily Devotional

DAY 58 OF 365

Wrath Any study into God's attributes would come up short if it didn't take an honest and sober look at His wrath. Wrath is defined as an "intense anger, rage, and fury towards something." Are you sure this is the same God we've been looking at over the past few weeks? This isn't the same God who is a God of love, mercy, forgiveness, and grace, is it? Yes, it is. The God who embodies all of those other, more palatable attributes, is also the God of wrath. It is part of who He is, and we'd be fooling ourselves or worshipping a false God if we ignored or denied this. God possesses an intense anger, rage, and fury towards something. And that "something" is all ungodliness and unrighteousness. In other words, our sin. Well, where does that leave us? All of us are guilty of sin, so I guess none of us can avoid feeling the heat of God's wrath, right? Listen, it's right here: The beauty of the cross shines brightest under the shadow of God's wrath towards sin, because God poured out His wrath for our sin on His own beloved Son who hung on the cross. The wrath of God was satisfied on the cross, and those who trust in this fact are completely protected from it. Jesus endured the punishment for us, and now He covers over us with His righteousness as we place our faith in Him. Even in God's wrath, His great love can't be missed. For all have sinned...Yet now God in his gracious kindness declares us not guilty...For God sent Jesus to take the punishment for our sins and to satisfy God's anger against us. We are made right with God when we believe that Jesus shed his blood, sacrificing his life for us. (Romans 3:23-25 NLT) The beauty of the cross shines brightest under the shadow of God's wrath towards sin, because God poured out His wrath for our sin on His own beloved Son who hung on the cross. What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
