DAY 118 OF 365

The Power of Praise For a number of years, David lived under the constant shadow of his enemies. He was a fugitive on the run, and just about every indistinct figure on the horizon held the threatening prospect of being an adversary sent to kill him. But with the threat of enemies all around, David discovered something that gave him the ability to prevail over his persecutors: But I will sing of Your power; yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning... Psalm 59:16 (NKJV) As day breaks, David envisions his enemies all around him. He unsheathes a weapon...and he sings. He sings? What kind of weapon is that? This is no ordinary song that David sings. He opens his mouth and sings praises to God, praises of God, and praises for God. It connected him to the Lord and sheltered and protected David as he dwelled in God's presence. And because this praise carries that kind of a connection, it's powerful. So powerful, in fact, that it can win any war or overcome any adversary. Praise and worship are some of the most reliable and formidable weapons in your spiritual arsenal. When you're feeling overwhelmed and dismayed, worship God and see what happens. If you're ensnared by depression, doubt, or discouragement, open your mouth to praise the Lord and watch what takes place. You will always emerge stronger and better off. There is power in praise. David knew it, and we need to know it-not as theory but as a reality in our daily walk. You are the only one worthy of our worship, O Lord...and we purpose in our hearts to position ourselves to praise You in all occasions. Praise and worship are some of the most reliable and formidable weapons in your spiritual arsenal. After using them you will always emerge stronger and better off. Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
