Submission Like Jesus
But I didn’t do anything wrong. But what if I know better than they do? But what if they’re wrong? But I was trying so hard. It’s just not fair. I have rights. I should at least be able to speak my mind. But I’ve been serving and giving and trying so hard. But I don’t deserve this.
These are all the thoughts that run through my mind when submission comes up. Whether it’s spiritual, marital, financial, governmental - you name it. We don’t like submission and we can all come up with a million and one reasons why we absolutely shouldn’t have to. Only, Jesus never used any of his available excuses. He had all the reasons in the world not to submit and He came to earth only to hand over His rights for the glory of God and the good of man, submitting all the way to the cross.
There are a million and one ways to approach submission. Who should we submit to? How should we submit? What does it look like to humble ourselves and give up our rights in different situations? But can we just cut to the heart of it? Let’s look at Jesus. Picture Him in your mind’s eye as He is walking to the cross. Bound and freshly beaten by the murderers He came to save. Misunderstood and reviled, holy and having never sinned. Ask Him how you’re supposed to follow in His footsteps today. Hold your hands open with your rights and your desires and with your eyes on Him, ask Him if He’d have you hold on to them or let them go?Let’s not be women who get caught up in asking endless questions about submission, let’s be women who get caught up in the love of our Savior and desire to follow in His footsteps. For the glory of God and the good of His people.

About this Plan

Peter walked with Jesus, talked with Jesus, messed up big and still had his Savior call him the rock - the foundation of the Church. Even though it’s thousands of years later, we’ll find we’re not so different from those New Testament believers. We are sprinkled by the blood of Jesus just as they were. We are set apart, forever made different, unable to return to our previous thinking and acting without seeing everything through the eyes of His sacrifice and our redemption. Join us as we dive into 1 Peter as a community!
