Love God Greatly: For Such a Time as This - a Study on the Book of Esther

DAY 11 OF 14

Week 2: Reflecting God

Honor for God Alone

Read: Esther 3:1-4, Psalm 95:6

SOAP: Psalm 95:6

“Come, let us bow down and worship. Let us kneel before the Lord, our Creator.”

Into the Text

There’s something so beautiful about bowing down in worship. It’s a physical expression of humility, surrender, and reverence before the Lord. In Psalm 95, David invites us to kneel before our Maker—the One who created us and is worthy of all our adoration. When we truly understand who God is, our natural response should be to worship Him with all our hearts.

Mordecai understood this well. Even though he was commanded to bow down to Haman, he refused. His devotion was reserved for the One who truly deserved his worship—God alone. In our own lives, we may not be asked to physically kneel before anyone, but we often face the temptation to “bow” to other things and in other ways. It may be the pursuit of success, the approval of others, or even the comforts and distractions of daily life. Without realizing it, we give our attention, time, and energy to things that slowly take the place of God in our hearts.

One way to examine our hearts is to consider where we invest our time and resources. Are there things drawing us away from God, subtly becoming idols in our lives? Worship is more than just a Sunday morning routine—it’s a daily posture of our heart. Like Mordecai, we’re called to reserve that place of honor for God alone.

Take time today to pause and reflect. Is there anything you’ve placed on the throne of your heart that doesn’t belong there? God is so gracious—He lovingly calls us back to Himself and is always ready to take His rightful place in our lives.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, be the love of my life! Like David and Mordecai, help me to worship only you. Reveal anything in my heart that is taking your place, and give me the strength to surrender it. May my life reflect a heart fully devoted to you. Amen.
