The Kid: An Advent Devotional for Middle SchoolersSample

Sometimes, fear feels like a dark valley. Maybe it's the anxiety of a big game, the stress of a family conflict, or the worry of a changing friendship that puts you in that pit. No matter how deep and dark the valley of fear you’re in right now, Scripture reminds us that we’re not walking through it alone.
The Kid, Jesus Himself, came to Earth to walk beside us through every dark valley, lowest low, and fear we might face. He doesn't always take away the scary things, but He does promise to be with us, to protect us, and to comfort us as we go through them. That’s what the birth of Jesus—the thing we celebrate every holiday season—is all about! And it’s a promise we can hold on to this Christmas and beyond.
This week, when fear threatens to overwhelm you, try to picture Jesus right beside you. Imagine Him ready to protect and guide you through your biggest fear. Then, take time to journal about how that practice changes the way you feel about facing your fears.
