The Kid: An Advent Devotional for Middle SchoolersSample

The beginning of Jesus’ time on Earth may seem simple, but it’s actually a pretty big deal! The Kid born in Bethlehem who ends up in Nazareth wasn’t just any baby born in a manger. He was the very Son of God Himself, arriving in the world in the most unexpected place and the most unpredictable way. And remembering that fact about how His life began can help us remember the way the rest of Jesus’ life defied expectations and changed the world.
This week, work on memorizing this passage to help you keep the start of Jesus’ story in mind. To do that, create an emoji code! Use a series of emojis to represent each keyword or phrase in the verse. For example, 👶🏠 for "Jesus was born," 👑 for "King Herod." You don’t need one for every word, but with just a few, you’ll have an image of the verse in your mind to help commit it to memory.
