The Larger Story Hopefully, by now you are beginning to see this life as an adventure. But it is an adventure that you will have to fight for. So what does your role in the story look like? Maybe it’s starting a church or ministry or maybe serving in one. Maybe it’s fostering a lonely child, helping a single mom, mentoring a young boy or young man. Maybe it’s helping others who are struggling with addictions or couples who are struggling in their marriage. Maybe for you, it’s beginning to serve and lead your family at home. Whatever your role in the story is, realize you have an irreplaceable part to play for the Kingdom. Now let’s look at the next chapter of the story….Heaven. What do you think of when you dream about Heaven? Streets of gold, cute little angels traveling around on clouds playing harps all day? Perhaps your thoughts lean more toward the words of a famous hymn - “when we’ve been here 10,000 years.” Ten thousand years standing around singing church hymns??? That’s not Heaven, that’s pure torture. Part of the battle to fight in this adventure is regaining our hearts and the hope of the true Gospel. Our spiritual enemy has robbed us of the blessing of dreaming about Heaven. Remember, you can never outdream God. Have you ever seen the forest come alive in spring? The flowers blooming, the squirrels scurrying around the treetops, the smell of fresh pine, the sound of a rushing brook or stream. How about watching the sunset over the ocean and colors so brilliant and majestic that it seems unearthly. Don’t forget, that God dreamt those things, and then He made them. Heaven is even better! In Rev 21:5, Jesus said, “I come to make all things new.” What He didn’t say was “I come to make all new things.” Imagine how “heavenly” this world would be with no cars, no roads, no buildings, no sin, no sickness, and no death. That’s Heaven! As you begin to see your life as part of a much larger story and an adventure to live, set your eyes and heart on Heaven. We have a hope of eternity that is so much better than what we have believed and so much more than we could ever imagine.
