Adventure to Live Battle, adventure, beauty…they have to have a mission to them. As we look into an Adventure to Live and specifically “calling,” there are three areas that we need to focus on. Over the next three days, we will look at each: desire, risk, and validation. Desire Walk with God and follow your heart. This is the beginning of engaging our desires in a healthy way. Knowledge in the absence of desire leads to a soul-killing faith. Desire in the absence of faith in God leads to some very dark places, most common of which are idolatry, addiction, and eventually anarchy. Wounds of the heart and events in which we felt humiliated can easily lead us into resignation and therefore push out desire. We must guard our hearts! Desire is so vital to the heart of a man. Just think about the way you feel when you watch a movie depicting a sweeping setting, a mission to accomplish, the battle to achieve victory in the mission, and the anticipation of the next mission. Movies like Braveheart, The Patriot, Gladiator, Matrix, Act of Valor, 13 Hours, and the list goes on. It isn’t the violence in the film; it is the story that speaks to your story. It is the story that was written long ago, prior to creation itself, and the story that awaits the final victory. Take some time to watch a couple of these films and pay attention to what scenes stir desire in you. We have to actively fight against resignation and invite desire into our actions. You are made for adventure. You are a son of God and an heir to His Kingdom. Embrace it! Breathe it in! DESIRE IS CORE TO OUR CALLING.
