#### KEY 3: See how many things you can thank God for every day! Years ago, we went through a very trying time financially with no prospect of an outcome soon. One of our spiritual fathers then told us, "shift your focus to God's goodness" and it will shift your focus away from your circumstances". He sat us down and invited us to write down 100 things we can thank God for. It started out easy, but when I came to 25 things on my list, I found myself starting to repeat items I had already recorded! It was a wonderful experience, and it certainly shifted our focus from our circumstances to God. Recording instances of God's goodness in our lives is a wonderful and simple way of also re-connecting with God in worship. As you write down things, you begin to realize His goodness and care in so many other areas of your life you may have taken for granted. Giving thanks somehow unburdens our hearts and shifts problems into their proper place! Whenever you feel you have reached a dead-end in your life, take out a pen and paper – start writing and giving thanks to God for things He is doing in your life. Once this becomes a habit, you can do it in your heart without having to write it down. You can also give thanks for everything you are learning in your current difficult situation. Ask Him to show you areas of your life where you need to grow or lay down your own opinion or self-will. Give thanks for discerning everything that separates you or cause you to feel distant in your walk with God. Give thanks to God as often as it comes to mind – when travelling to work, or in bed at night, or when waking up in the middle of the night. When you cannot think of more items, ask the Holy Spirit to show you!
