DAY 59 OF 365

If you are looking for an expensive gift to give someone, you could spend $8 million for diamond ring; or $48 million for an executive jet airplane; or $100 million for an island in Granada. But according to the book of Proverbs, you might be wasting your money. Solomon told his son, “Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.” Jesus made a similar point about the value of the Kingdom when he said, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought the pearl of great price.” Wisdom, as taught in the Bible, is the ability to discern things from God’s perspective–what is true, right, or lasting. Proverbs tells us that the benefits of divine wisdom are enormous: guidance and protection; healthier living; good family relationships; creativity and favor in the workplace; solutions to problems; recognition; and peace. Solomon told his children, “Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do.” He said, "If you prize wisdom, she will make you great.” Solomon tells us how to obtain wisdom. He said, “The fear of the LORD is the foundation of true wisdom.” The more we cultivate our relationship with God, the more we discover the magnitude and surpassing greatness of God’s wisdom and knowledge!
