Daily Direction Reading Plan

DAY 340 OF 365

I am not a golfer, but I know people who are. Some of them are so passionate about golf, they will play even when snow is on the ground. Having the right passion in life can be valuable, especially when it benefits others and the kingdom of God. The Apostle Paul speaks about His passion in his letter to the Philippians. We may even regard his thoughts as a kind of theology for living or a reason for living. One of his burning desires was that he would never be ashamed of Christ, but would remain bold until the very end of his life. He said, "To me, living means always living for Christ and dying is even better; for if I live I can do more fruitful work for Christ." Two conflicting desires tore at him: (1) to go and be with Christ, and (2) to stay alive and minister to the believers. To him, going would appear to be a selfish motive. Staying would be a more altruistic motive. So he says he would rather stay alive and serve them, and he is convinced that is what Christ wants him to do. He urges his readers to join him and live as citizens of heaven, live a life that is worthy of the Good News. To do it, they should remember that God chose us to be His holy people, set apart for His purposes. To live up to that high calling, we regard ourselves as salt and light in our culture. We stand fast in our loyalty to Christ. And we cling to our mission of sharing the truth of God's love and forgiveness.
