Daily Direction Reading Plan

DAY 251 OF 365

According to Time magazine, Kathy Power is a member of a radical group called Student Strike Force. The group tried to rob a bank, and in the process, a police officer died. Power escaped and went underground to avoid capture. She started a new life, bought a house, gave birth to a son, and married. But 23 years later at age 44, she was so tormented by guilt that she turned herself in to the police. Guilt is like that. That is why David confessed his sin to God. He had committed adultery with Bathsheba, and had her husband murdered. He pleads in Psalm 51, “Have mercy on me O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night. Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight.” David knew that while he hurt others, his sin was primarily against God. He knew he would never get relief of guilt until he confessed his sin to God. He then counted on God’s mercy to forgive him. So whether we seek relief from a life of sin or from some specific offense, we should humbly confess to God. God will forgive us because of Jesus, who took our punishment when He died. Today, He stands ready to plead for us before His Father.
