I AM: Who Jesus Is Changes Everything

DAY 1 OF 5

The Bread of Life Imagine that you are walking in the desert. You have been journeying for days, desperate to find your way to the other side. Your mouth is dry, and your stomach has not stopped growling. All you want is something to eat and drink so that you can have the strength and energy to go on. Without Christ, each one of us is walking in a spiritual wilderness. We are searching for what will satisfy us—but to no avail, for we are separated from the one thing, the one person we need in order to experience deep and lasting satisfaction—Jesus. The title that Jesus gives Himself in John 6:31–35, “the Bread of Life,” means that in Christ, our deepest spiritual need is met. The salvation we receive from Jesus, made possible through His death and resurrection, forgives us for our sins and gives us eternal life. Christ’s grace and forgiveness enable us to no longer search for lasting satisfaction because Jesus’s salvation has given us what we so desperately need to experience true life. Therefore, we do not have to look to anything else for satisfaction. So often we look to a person, our status, or our circumstances to make us feel satisfied. While those people, things, and situations may give us a semblance of satisfaction for a little while, they will eventually let us down. Why? Because it is only Jesus who can truly satisfy our souls. He not only gives us lasting life but eternal hope, peace, and joy. So rather than looking to the things of this world to satisfy us, let us look to Jesus alone. Let us look to Him when we find ourselves feeling a sense of lack or discontent. When we look to Jesus, we are reminded of the life He has given us that can never be taken away. Reflect and Respond What do you look to for satisfaction? How can you look to Jesus alone for satisfaction?
