How Can They Preach Unless They Are Sent? Romans 10:14-16 “And how can they hear without a preacher? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written; How beautiful are the feet of those who announce the gospel of good things!” Before we even get started, let me answer your question. I know you probably aren’t called to be a preacher in front of a congregation each week. But this passage still has something to say to you. Why? Because it wasn’t addressed to just those whom God has called with a different calling to preach every week in local churches. The preacher in these verses is just someone proclaiming the gospel of good things! That’s you and me and every believer everywhere. The truth is that unless we are willing to tell others the good news about Jesus and His offer of salvation, there is no other way for them to be saved. Those who are lost are not going to be saved because they are Americans, or they live in the southern US, or even because their family has always gone to church. We have a chance to be the one who brings the good news to them. Paul quotes part of Isaiah 52:7: "How beautiful are the feet of those who announce the gospel of good things." We have the awesome opportunity to be the one who tells our friends and family about the offer of salvation by faith in the work of Jesus on the cross. It really is good news. Imagine telling someone on death row that they will not be executed. Imagine telling someone who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer that the tumors are gone. Imagine telling someone who is enslaved by addiction that it no longer holds sway over them. Imagine telling someone that the God who has every right to send us away from His holy presence because of our sin, has paid the penalty for that sin through sending His only Son to die on our behalf so that we might be made right with God through that sacrifice. When we understand that the message of the gospel is really GOOD NEWS, we can’t help but tell others. We can’t wait to share it with those we love and even those we don’t. We can’t wait to get up and go to the world to tell them about Jesus!
