The second part of James 2 (from verse 14) exhorts us to follow God’s law (as previously mentioned in v.8) being one of freedom. The freedom we have in Christ leads us to mercy instead of judgment, in the image of our merciful God. However, God will not tolerate a world in which mercy isn’t the ultimate rule of life, hence his judgment (v. 12-13). As his people, we get to focus on mercy and trust him with judgment.
