God’s Fiery Love When we think of fire, we associate it with things like judgment, wrath and punishment. Seldom do we associate fire with love, let alone God’s love. Yet for a moment, if we ponder on the purity of God’s love towards us, we will realize that the intensity of His love towards us is not a passive emotion. It is not just fondness or a warm, fuzzy feeling. It is intense, action-oriented and burning hot! Remember He said that He is a jealous lover. God is love, and His eyes depict the intensity of the passion that He feels towards us. It is a blazing fire, a burning desire that cannot be quenched. I believe that at Pentecost, God must have been gazing with so much of zeal and passion for those people, that His love appeared like tongues of fire. The fire was the absolute, intense, passionate, zealous love of God that made these nervous, broken and lost people become bold, unwavering giants, willing to give their lives for Jesus. That’s what love does; it transforms us into a bold people, empowered to do the impossible! The Holy Spirit is also associated with fire. He is that same love of God, expressed towards us. When the Holy Spirit convicts us, it is not that He is exposing our faults, but that He is revealing to us that which could be hindering us from experiencing and receiving the fullness of God’s love. That’s the reason why, not living in full-blown fiery passion, is not living at all. Prayer God, help me see and understand the intensity of Your love for me so that I can also be a full-blown love addict like You are. Amen.
