Reverence for God’s Holiness Hosea speaks about Israel’s heart being divided in her loyalty towards God. God had blessed Israel beyond measure and had a special place for her in His heart. However, the Israelites took both, His love and grace, for granted, delighting in living for their own gain and pleasures. The more prosperous they were, the more altars they built towards false gods. In spite of constantly experiencing His miraculous deeds and being warned of their erring ways, they seemed to delight in wickedness. Our God is a holy and jealous God. He will not share us with any other. He loves the sinner wholeheartedly, but hates sin in his life. When we come to worship this holy God, we must have reverence for His character. Often we are very casual about our sinful life and do not heed God’s instructions on leading a holy and righteous life. Though salvation does not depend on good works, it needs to result in a lifestyle of holiness, simply because our transformed spirit must now reign over our soul. God, in His mercy and grace, forgives our most heinous crimes. But these sins might have consequences in the natural, which we could end up reaping. God, in His sovereignty, can redeem us from these natural consequences. Sometimes the result of living out the consequences of our sins can be very painful, both for us and for God. Let us, therefore, ask God for His grace in living a life worthy of Him. Prayer Father, make my heart utterly Yours, and let my life reflect You in all I do. Amen.
