Depend on God We need to be continually reminded to resist our dependence on man and look to God. This psalm, written by David, instructs us to depend on God in times of difficulties or in troubling circumstances. David had experienced many trials. He was anointed to be king over Israel but he spent many years on the run, defending his life from King Saul before he was finally crowned king. All he had experienced had taught him to trust the Creator. He had learned the truth that God alone is reliable and gives us victory over and over again in all situations. Often, when we go through trying circumstances, our first reaction is to run to our seniors or people with more influence. We try to go to those who have faced similar situations before. We feel that the people around us are better equipped to help us. Little do we realize that our Almighty Father, the Maker of heaven and earth, is the One who has the answers. Why do we need to look to man when we can look to the Creator of man, who is our refuge and strength, our very present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1)? The Lord will tread down all our enemies. All we have to do is surrender, for the battle is the Lord’s and the victory is ours. American evangelist D.L. Moody said, “Trust in yourself and you are doomed to disappointment. Trust in your friends and they will die and leave you. Trust in money and you may have it taken from you. Trust in reputation and some slanderous tongues will blast it. But trust in God and you are never to be confounded in time or eternity.” Prayer Lord, we place our trust in You alone. We look to You because You are the best help in times of trouble. Amen.
