Wake up and Smell the Coffee! The realization of God’s presence came to Jacob when he awoke from a dream, in which he literally saw God. He was on the run from his brother Esau, after usurping Esau’s blessing. Jacob was most likely of the opinion that God was present only in temples, or appeared and spoke only to great men. Hence he was suitably amazed to know that God is everywhere! There are days, weeks and sometimes long periods when we wonder where God is in particular situations. We become so disappointed that God has not ‘shown up’ that we get into a deep slumber of disillusionment. We then try to do things in our strength and our might, and lose our way further. We end up crying, “Lord, where are you?” and not heeding His response when He says “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6). Yet, when there is a sudden supernatural solution, we realize that it could have only been God. He was there all the time! In spite of our complaining and cribbing, He didn’t give up on us. And we lived not knowing it! Tragic that we squandered precious time; time that we could have spent in the presence of God, but which we whittled away wondering where God was. We don’t need to look for God in man-made structures. We don’t need to ask Him where He is. He is everywhere, He is omnipresent. He is with us; all the time. Let’s wake up from our deep, yet vexed slumber; let’s not waste any more time, and declare that “God is here!” Prayer Lord, forgive us for the times we have overlooked Your presence. Help us to be aware of Your being here, there and everywhere. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
