And Now….A Word for the Husbands Jack and Cynthia struggled in their marriage. Jack’s business suffered some serious setbacks. He invited a friend over, who was also a Christian marriage counsellor. At dinner, Jack joked about Cynthia’s cooking and criticized her dressing sense. He thought he was being humorous. It didn’t take long for the friend to find out the root cause of Jack’s problems. The Word of God clearly states that husbands should dwell with their wives with understanding, giving honor to them as the weaker vessels, that their prayers may not be hindered. Jack was publicly demeaning his wife, causing his prayer life to be hindered. Cynthia struggled to submit to him and respect him as a wife should. To cut a long story short, Jack accepted responsibility for his inconsiderate behavior towards his wife. He repented in prayer and apologized to Cynthia. The marriage improved drastically and so did Jack’s business. (A true story) In Malachi 2:13,14, the priests could not understand why God disregarded their offerings and their prayers. Finally, God told them, through the prophet Malachi, that they were dealing treacherously with their wives. Husbands, this is serious stuff. Jesus in His unconditional love for us died on the cross. He never forced us to accept Him as Lord and God. We responded to His love out of our own free will. In the same way, God would like us, husbands, to love our wives, sacrificing our pride, ego and money to keep them loved, cared for, happy and secure. Wives respond beautifully to love and they, in turn, submit, respect and serve their husbands joyfully. Now tell me, which husband wouldn’t want a doting wife and children around him, besides answered prayer? Prayer Lord Jesus, I really want to love my wife, as You love Your church. So, help me and fill me with Your Holy Spirit, to make this possible. Amen.
