Recurring Deposit A friend recently explained to me the difference between opening a fixed deposit and opening a recurring deposit. I could put in a lumpsum of money for a fixed period and wait for it to mature. Or I could start a recurring deposit, which would require me to deposit a certain amount of money periodically into the bank. The frightening part about this was that I would definitely need to set aside a certain amount each month. That meant I had to make a definite commitment to save some money each month as opposed to putting some money aside and forgetting about it till I got a notice of maturation. Your life of faith is like a recurring deposit. You could ensure that your deposit is fixed by believing once for your salvation and then going on with your life, waiting for heaven. Or you could choose to take each step by faith. Every time a new situation arrives, you can choose to deposit your mustard seed faith. That’s all that’s required of you to keep the account running. But with each deposit, interest adds to the value, and God’s rate of interest in you is extremely high. Unlike the earthly system, it keeps growing. It can get tiring to keep walking in faith. The circumstances can be enough to dissuade us. It’s easier to take one step in faith than to keep walking daily in it, especially with a blindfold on. It requires a daily renewal of your commitment. But be sure of the promise of maturity. When your term is completed, the riches of having walked the road, reached the destination and resting in His arms is more than enough to keep us making our deposit. Along the way, you get rewarded for each step, but the greater joy is in the full term maturity reward. Prayer Lord, help me to continue to hold on. Even though I may grow weary, let me know my strength is in You. Amen.
