I Hear a Voice Jesus not only taught that sheep will know the shepherd’s voice, He also declared, “My sheep hear My voice . . . and they follow Me.” He asserted that receiving His word—responding to it—is every bit as essential as recognizing it. In describing the shepherd/sheep relationship as the basis for this order of hearing, He is saying: (1) If you don’t listen, you won’t know where He’s going, and (2) if you don’t respond, you won’t be very close to where He is.
