Prayers: A Journey Through Eurasia

DAY 9 OF 14

[IMAGE CONTENT] # How to Pray for Secularist and Atheists Eurasia is the stronghold of the world’s largest religions: the birthplace of Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, and Christianity. Now another belief system is gaining momentum: atheism. With 750 million adherents, some consider atheism the world’s third-largest religion, behind Christianity and Islam. Atheism, and its related worldviews of secularism, humanism, and agnosticism, are growing steadily in Eurasia. For centuries, many Eurasian countries were conquered over and over in the name of God. Most recently, the Soviet occupation declared “God is dead” and attempted to remove every trace of religion from its borders. After being ruled by others for so long, Eurasians feel that they finally have a chance to rule themselves. Others have seen the inhumanities of Islamic or Buddhist extremism and want nothing to do with the atrocities committed in the name of religion. In historically under-educated nations like India, a new generation of young people is questioning their Hindu upbringing as they break the cycle of illiteracy and superstition and pursue higher education in universities. The secular generation claims to have no god, but everyone is ruled by something. Nonreligious Turks and Russians worship intellectualism. In Israel, where more than 80% of the population is secular, nationalism and humanism are the gods of choice. In Estonia, the self-proclaimed least-religious country in the world, self-sufficiency is god. Despite these pursuits, the seculars of Eurasia are finding that their lives are very empty. The increasing rate of substance abuse and suicide confirms that they have yet to find what their souls truly long for – a relationship with their Father. However, most Eurasians have never met a follower of Jesus. They cannot accept the goodness of God when it has never been demonstrated to them. ### Pray for Secularists and Atheists: * Pray that God would heal the wounds of the past and gently correct the misrepresentations of Himself that have created a secular generation. * Pray that atheists would “come to their senses” and realize that the goodness of the Father awaits them. * Pray for workers among these Secularists. Most have never met a believer. Pray for sincere, Spirit-led relationships that lead them to salvation. * Pray that the Church in Eurasia will have opportunities among seculars to redefine who God is and reveal what it truly means to be the Church. * Pray for the full release of the Holy Spirit throughout Eurasia. May God reveal Himself through dreams, signs, wonders, and miracles.
