# GOD’S STILL WORKING ON YOU Maybe you’ve heard of Queen Esther. She’s the one who bravely went to King Xerxes and asked him to spare her people. There were feasts and scepters and plenty of death-defying moments in between. It really is a great story. (You can read all about it in the book of Esther). And Esther really was a hero who saved her people. But . . . Did you know that at first Esther said no? That’s right, Esther said no when her uncle Mordecai first asked her to help save her people. Now, don’t be too hard on Esther. It was risky. No one—not even the queen—could go to the king without being called. And Esther hadn’t heard from the king in weeks. Walking into the king’s throne room without an invitation meant she could be killed. But with a little help from her uncle Mordecai, Esther did decide to do the right thing. And she did save her people. The thing is, sometimes it can be hard to do the right thing. It might be a little uncomfortable. A little risky. Even a little scary. People might laugh. The other kids might not want to hang out with you. There will be times when you’re like Esther, and you want to say, “Umm . . . no thanks. I’d rather not do that.” If that happens, it will be okay. God is still working on you. Talk to him. Ask Him to help you know what to do and to have the courage to do it. Remember: Esther got a second chance to do the right thing. Ask God to give you one too. God is still working on all the people around you too. So when they mess up—and they will—be ready to give them a second chance too. PRAY > Lord, please give me the courage to do what is right the first time. Amen.
