Advent in Israel: The Places of Israel & the Story of JesusSample

Day 11 - Magdala
Mary Magdalene was once a woman who was possessed by many demons (Mark 16:9), until she met the Lord. From that point on she followed Jesus throughout the rest of His ministry, to His crucifixion and beyond.
Her city was a small one on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Though only spoken of once in scripture, it is likely that Jesus passed through this city many times and spoke in the synagogue.
We learn through Mary’s story that Jesus always saw those oppressed through eyes of compassion. He healed them and called them out of their sin and to a new way.
Mary Magdalene’s story teaches us that Jesus has power over Satan himself, that no one is beyond His reach, and that His heart is for the lost. How does knowing this about Jesus draw you to Him?

About this Plan

As we enter the Christmas season, we are all eager to celebrate the birth of Jesus, the point in history where God descended into humanity to bring life to a broken world. Each day leading up to Christmas, we will provide an overview of the biblical significance of a location in Israel, along with a devotional prompt that will connect that location with the life of Jesus in Scripture.
