Up! We Will Elevate (Week 4) Sample

Day Four—I Am a Good Listener Welcome to this devotional for kids!  Our 'UP' series is inspired by our 'We Will Elevate' DNA—We practise showing kindness to those around us and never leave anyone out. We value others the way God values us by being a good friend and listener, respecting our leaders and parents, and choosing to always see the good in others. During this series we want to truly grasp what it means to honour and elevate those around us—not just those who seem to be popular or are the most important in our lives—and to remember that God wants us to ‘take delight in honouring each other.’ That means everyone! Follow along as we truly grasp what it means to honour and elevate those around us! READ: A Hole in the Roof in any children's Bible or Matthew 9:1–8 The friends in this story knew that what God says is always good. They arrived at a crowded house, which shows us that lots of people were listening to Jesus when this story took place. It’s great when we can come together to listen to Jesus! ASK: Remember last week when we spoke about being a good friend and wanting the best for others? We used the example of being served vegetables with dinner—you might not like it, but we promise: vegetables are good for you! In the same way, God’s Word is always good for you. Sometimes God speaks to us, and we know that we have to change. We can trust that His ways are greater, and we can rely on Him. Have you ever felt God speak to you about something that you needed to change? How did it make you feel, and what happened when you made that change? We can be good listeners by trusting that what God says is true and that it will always bring the best out in us! Today we would love you to get creative with your memory verse. Think about the truth that this really holds in your life and how God is truly asking you to love others with such kindness! Maybe you can draw pictures of your friends, family and those that God has put in your life. REMEMBER: Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honouring each other. (Romans 12:10) SAY: Jesus, you show us how to be kind, No greater love will we find. Your deep love that gives us great value, Growing us as we learn more about you. Our friend, our saviour, our kind teacher, Helping us see the good in each other.
