Up! We Will Elevate (Week 4)

Day 1 of 7 • This day’s reading

Devotional

Day One—I Am a Good Listener

Welcome to this devotional for kids!  Our 'UP' series is inspired by our 'We Will Elevate' DNA—We practise showing kindness to those around us and never leave anyone out. We value others the way God values us by being a good friend and listener, respecting our leaders and parents, and choosing to always see the good in others.

During this series we want to truly grasp what it means to honour and elevate those around us—not just those who seem to be popular or are the most important in our lives—and to remember that God wants us to ‘take delight in honouring each other.’ That means everyone!

Follow along as we truly grasp what it means to honour and elevate those around us!

READ:

A Hole in the Roof in any children's Bible or Matthew 9:1–8

In this story we see that the friends knew and valued that the words Jesus spoke were good and true. They believed His words were of more value than any others, and this is what drove them to bring their friend to be healed, because they truly believed that Jesus was exactly who He said He was!

ASK:

The world is full of lots of different voices and opinions, but we can learn from this story that the Word of God is—and always will be—the most important voice of all. When we listen to the wrong voice, we can often become quite confused.

Can you imagine what would have happened if this group of friends had listened to the voices of the crowds who told them that there was no way in to get to Jesus? It would have been a completely different story! Thankfully, the men had faith to listen to what God was stirring them to do.

Can you think of some things that people have said about you that you know not to be true?

What do you think God says about you? Take some time today, listen to the worship song ‘Who You Say I Am’ by Hillsong Kids, and think about who God says you are. This is how God wants you to see others, too!

REMEMBER:

Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honouring each other. (Romans 12:10)

SAY:

Jesus, you show us how to be kind,

No greater love will we find.

Your deep love that gives us great value,

Growing us as we learn more about you.

Our friend, our saviour, our kind teacher,

Helping us see the good in each other.
