Through the Bible: 1 Chronicles

DAY 4 OF 10

## Knowing Our Roots and God’s Promises > So all Israel was recorded in genealogies, and these are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel. And Judah was taken into exile in Babylon because of their breach of faith. Now the first to dwell again in their possessions in their cities were Israel, the priests, the Levites, and the temple servants. 1 Chronicles 9:1-2 (ESV) There are a lot of names recorded in the book of Chronicles, which are of utmost importance to the people of Israel back then. The destruction of Jerusalem by King Nebuchadnezzar and the 70 years of captivity that followed had crushed the hope of many Jews. God brought them back to their land. Those who were born in captivity needed to know the glorious past, the roots of faith, in order to rebuild the temple. They needed a sense of identity in order to look forward to the future. As New Testament Christians, we need to know the foundation of our faith, the character, love, and promises of God, His miracles and mighty doings, and the heroes of faith who have helped to build the church for His glory. ### Prayer Dear God, You are the God of the past, present, and future. The root of our faith lies in Your goodness and Your kindness leads us to repentance. We are secure in Your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
