## True North A true story was shared with me about a Christian speaker who was invited to a secular university to defend the reality of God. As he walked to the podium, he instantly recognized the hostility of the audience. He knew he had to come at them with a different approach, so he said, “I want everyone to stand up and point north.” Hundreds of students stood up and pointed all different directions like the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz. Some pointed up. Others to their right or left or behind them. When they had all returned to their seats he reached into his pocket and pulled out a compass. He told them that God had created the world with a magnetic field so that the compass would always point north. The Bible is the moral compass for the nations. It will always point us to true north. It will always take us back to greatness. All nations that forget God will be turned into hell, but those who follow true north will be exalted. The Bible is the moral compass of the soul. It shows me both the next step and the end goal of where I’m going. The Bible contains the mind of God. You want to know what God thinks? Read the Holy Scriptures. The Bible is the Magna Carta of happiness for believers. Its doctrines are holy. Its precepts are binding. Its histories are true. And its decisions are immutable. “Immutable” means that according to God’s law it cannot be changed. It is the whole truth and nothing but the truth. There is going to come a day when the Judge of all judges will sit on His eternal throne and open the Book to send forth His Word. He’s not sending out fake news; it will be chapter and verse what comes out of this sacred text. Long after America no longer exists and Europe has been crushed by the Antichrist, one thing will remain: The Word of God. This is not a passing trend. It isn’t a hairstyle from the nineties or bell-bottoms of the seventies, coming in and out of style. No. This is honey in the rock that satisfies the soul and it will stand forever. Other books you read may impress you, but the Bible will change you. It will make you a new creature in Christ Jesus. You can read Shakespeare, Shelley, Keats, Byron, Longfellow — in fact, you should! But they will not change you. From time to time, they will flat out bore you. When you read creation’s story in Genesis, when you turn the page to Exodus and read the miracles of an Almighty God leading two million Jewish people out of Egyptian bondage, dividing the Red Sea, guiding them with a cloud by day and warming them with a fire by night, providing manna six days a week, when you read Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John — it will change you. The Bible is a chain breaker, habit breaker, past breaker. It makes sinners forsake their ways. It takes the pain out of dying. It takes the gloom from the grave and gives a hope that is steadfast and sure. When Jesus said, “Because I live, you also will live” (John 14:19, ESV), He meant that one day every righteous grave on the face of the earth is going to explode and the dead will be awakened and rise to meet the King of Glory in the air. What a wonderful day that will be!
