DAY 5 OF 7

Your Soul Needs God First Your soul will remain sick and disintegrating for as long as it is separated from God. That’s the key to a healthy soul is God Himself. Anything that separates us from God – whatever that may be – is sin. God wants us to be in union with Him because it is actually for our own good. Without Him, we’re as good as dead. Now we can always aspire for other things, or people, instead of God. Our souls crave for connection. But our real need is authentic life-giving relationships with God, and then, as a result, with others as well. God comes first. Others come second. When we choose to get connected with God first, our souls begin to come alive, because God is the source of life. Then we can love others as well, resulting in more vibrancy in our lives. We can also begin to love ourselves in the right way. We are most happy and fulfilled when God comes first. But when we direct our energies to other things or other people first, or even to ourselves first, they or we become our idols. They begin to replace God as the center of our lives. The result is what sin does. It separates us from God, who is the source of all true life. When your soul is not in communion with God on a day-to-day basis, for whatever reason, your soul suffers from soul sickness. When your body is deprived of water or food, it slowly dies. Sin kills the soul eventually. So slow death. Our souls begin to whither and die. We are not meant for idolatry but for the worship of our one and only true God, the Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Through Jesus we can worship God in spirit and truth. Real life is when we finally know God through Jesus Christ. That’s when our souls find rest.
