The Journey Begins

DAY 3 OF 10

I remember the first time I ever went to an optician. I had begun to see words as blur. What truly amazed me was the first time I put on the test glasses my immediate environment was transformed. “This is what it should look like!” I was looking through a new set of lenses. The thing is, most people grow up hearing about God but never really seeing Him as He really is. You may have grown up with a perception of God based on past experiences or on what others have told you. Sometimes this can be a negative perception, but when you become a Christian one of the most exciting things that happens is you get to see Him and know Him for who He really is. We see Him through a new set of lenses. The best way to get to know God is through prayer and reading the Bible (both of which we’ll cover in the coming days). The Bible is full of great stories and accounts that describe God’s true character to us. We discover that He is not distant, hard, cruel or uninterested. Rather He is a good God who loves, empowers, heals, and wants the best for your life. He is a father and a friend. He is our provider, our healer, and our leader. He is everywhere all at once (omnipresent). He knows all things (omniscient). He’s unlimited in power (omnipotent). God is holy and righteous, and full of mercy and compassion. It's also important to understand that God is both one and three persons. The best way to describe it is like an egg. Picture an egg that has been cut down the middle, revealing what’s inside. You will see three distinct parts that make up one egg. The yoke, the white and the shell. They are all distinct yet they make up one thing. It’s similar with God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They are each distinct but part of what we call 'the Trinity' – they are three in one. As we read the Bible and pray, we can get to know Jesus, the one who saves and forgives; the Father who reaffirms our identity as He speaks with us; and the Holy Spirit who empowers us, and with whom we can interact through the day.
