The Journey Begins

DAY 8 OF 10

Over the centuries the places people have met in as a Church have varied from new to old, small to large, iconic to modern. But even though we attend Church in a building every week, the building itself is not the Church. The Church is a community of the followers of Jesus. It is here in Church where you will be empowered by teaching from the Bible to live a successful life in God, and receive your weekly spiritual nourishment. Church is like that petrol station I mentioned previously; it’s the place you come to be refuelled for the week. It’s in Church you will experience songs of worship and prayer. Corporate worship and prayer creates an environment where the presence of God is felt and encountered. It brings honour to God. It’s in Church that you connect with other Christians with whom you can build friendships, give and receive encouragement, and build each other up. Getting involved is by far the best way to feel connected to this community we call Church. So that you can develop these connections in your life, during the week, Churches often have groups that meet in homes or cafes to study the Bible, to meet friends, to pray and to learn from one another. Discussing the Bible together is a great way to help bring understanding to one another and deepen relationships. Giving is also an important part of Church culture. Giving of your time, your talent and your money is one of the best things you can do to grow as a follower of Christ. Giving is a voluntary act that makes a statement that we trust God with our time, our talents and our finances. The adventure we call 'faith' is a great one. It’s one you best discover in the context of your Church - we’re not meant to do this on our own. Trust in God is worked out as you do the journey with others. If you are not in a Church, or in a Church but not in a small group, why don’t you take a step to find one today?
