JohnBlog - Word&Light Day 13 To those who received him, he gave the right to become children of God. To those who received the Light, the Light gave the right to live empowered by the indwelling Spirit of Light and thus become God's children. Born not of flesh or a husband's will, but born a second time, of the Spirit. Starting again. Darkness left behind. And leaving the darkness behind, I too, am sent by God. Walking as a witness that I might bear witness of the Light, so that others might believe through the Light shining through me. John the Baptist's Disciple in 1st Century Palestine: My life, Lord, has been a wilderness; dry as the dust on my feet. My spirit withered like the fig tree I once saw struggling to grow in the mouth of a cave. Roots in shallow soil and leaves bereft of light. A stunted and pitiful structure, alive but barely so. Existing not living, the effort too much to yield anything but hardened and shrunken shriveled fruit. There was a man - sent by God? Preaching in the wilderness; but not of the wilderness. A prophet? Or the one promised long ago to restore the Kingdom of God's people? I went to him. He spoke fire and I burned like dead wood. He pushed me under the river and the ashes drifted away. I was left a naked sprit, reaching out, imploring heaven to cloth me with holiness. The hunger burned as strongly as the prophet's words. It did not go away. It has not gone away. His words were not food; they increased my hunger. They were not drink; they made me more thirsty. I turned, repented, went under the water, my old life drowned, was filled. But I am not yet made new. What is this? Who is this man? Where, Oh God, are you in this thing that has happened to me? The Lord: Stay right where you are my daughter. Something very wonderful is about to happen.
