DAY 10 OF 21

JohnBlog - Word&Light Day 10 The Greek word translated ‘overcome’ means ‘aggressively taking something by force’. Nothing – not sickness nor suffering; prison nor pain; depression nor disaster; failures nor floods can rob you of the love of God found in Jesus. A person filled with his Spirit is invincible. In life, she glows with the reflection of Jesus. Facing troubles, persecution and death she whispers ‘to die is gain’. While it cannot be overcome by darkness, Light can be obscured by objects in front of it. Darkness may come because a man’s life is cluttered with objects that block the energizing waves of God. Whole cultures and peoples are darkened as, over decades, centuries and millennia, beliefs and practices cumulatively block enlightened understanding. Light will always find a way to the open-hearted, but there are more obstructions to be removed in some cultures, nations, tribes, religions, denominations, families and individuals, and particular parts of an individual’s life, than in others. That does not make the world unfair: patchworks of shadows necessarily form by the decisions made by every new member of the human race. Our choices affect ourselves, our fellow travellers and our progeny. It has nothing to do with fairness since one single obstacle can keep a church-goer in deep darkness and someone from a darkly evil modern or ancient sub-culture can be freed from multiple obstacles in an instance. John 1.5 is also translated “the Light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not understood (or comprehended) it”. Jesus, perfect communication of the everlasting God, came to His own and His own did not receive Him. They did not understand him. Didn't get the significance of his signs; didn't see beyond his background; couldn't comprehend the earth-shattering event that was Jesus Christ. They had become accustomed to the darkness; their sight and other senses sensitized to shadows. Jesus: My son, learn where the shadows are: the disappearance of peace when thoughts stray where they should not; forthright guilt; or shame – before others, before yourself, before me. Or you are anxious; or struggling with greed, pride, lust, unforgiveness. Confess that the blockage is there and that you have, perhaps, enjoyed its presence. Ask the Light of the World to blast it away. I am the Light of the World. I remove heavy burdens. I give sight to the blind. I turn mourning into dancing.
