In 1943, Ruth Crowley, a columnist for the [ Chicago Sun-Times ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Sun-Times) , wrote this: “Expect trouble as an inevitable part of life and repeat to yourself, the most comforting words of all; this, too, shall pass.” She said that “trouble” was a part of life that we can expect to encounter. Jesus said the same thing: “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world” (John 16:33 NLT). Jesus didn’t promise His followers comfort, ease, or predictable happiness. He simply said, “But take heart.” How can we possibly take heart when life is falling apart? Well, it’s because of Jesus’ words: “I have overcome the world.” Jesus defeated sin and death, which makes Him capable of giving us hope! Following Jesus = holding on to hope. Take heart. When you face the “trouble” that’s an inevitable part of life, you have a choice to either run toward Him or away from Him. Run to Him! Hold onto Him! Ultimately, there is hope, because Jesus has overcome the world! Where’s the trouble in your world? Make a decision to run towards God instead of away from Him.
