Slavery under the Egyptians had left traces (suffering, wounds). Some of them were unbearable and from the point of view of the Hebrews, there was no prospect of change or rescue. In addition, they were under the influence of the false religion of the Egyptians. They had lost sight of God's promises. Perhaps we also know such traces in our lives. A hurt, a need that we have been carrying around with us for a long time. Sometimes the pain of such hurts becomes just so unbearable, it becomes our main focus. Thoughts about it begin to circle in our minds. The hope that something will change seems to be infinitely far away. Maybe we look for ways to distract ourselves from it. To ignore or numb the pain in some way. Just so we do not have to face it. But the pain, the hurt remains. I know that from my own life. A situation, a state, something that I am (literally) "sorry" for. The bigger this "sorry" is, the more my thoughts turn around it and the blinder I become to God's promise. This blindness captivates my heart. In such moments, I often do not realize that God sees me here and now and that my need touches His heart. I forget His promises and His love. That is why it is important I understand ("recognize") who and how God is over and over again. If I look closely into the "rear-view mirror" and see all the good in my life, I can discover that God Himself, His promises and His faithfulness are true and authentic. In a simple prayer, I can give Him everything that blocks my view from seeing Him and ask Him to meet me. God knows the traces in your life, He sees your needs. He sees what captures your heart and He loves you much too much to leave you as you are. ## ACTION STEP: Look in the "rear-view mirror" and write down 5 points for which you want to thank God today. ##### Rainer Arndt, ICF Balingen
