Confirmed His Word
Mark 16:15, 20
“…Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation…Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.”
The “Great Commission”, as it has often been called, is a command to go and preach the good news. Matthew’s gospel calls us to “go and make disciples of all nations.” The verbal proclamation of the gospel is the priority. The signs demonstrate the power and presence of God in confirming the authenticity and authority of God’s Word through his servants. The signs follow or accompany us, yet we don’t follow them. The call to go, preach and expect confirming demonstrations of the Spirit’s power and presence, all require risk-taking obedience to Jesus. We must first know Jesus and believe that he is “working with us” as we go in his name.
Jesus, thank you for the invitation to join you on your mission. Thank you for your presence and Spirit’s work in anointing and confirming your Word.
