Although the church of Jesus Christ is found in many different places, she is one church, not many. After all, there are many rays of sunlight, but only one sun. A tree has many boughs, each slightly different from others, but all drawing their strength from one source. Many streams may flow down a hillside, but they all originate from the same spring. In the same way each local congregation belongs to the one true church.

The unity that God is pouring out is not found in a common set of theological points. It isn’t that we all care about the same issues. God is not calling us to sameness but to unity. Loving one another not simply in spite of our differences but because of our differences.

Psalms 133 says that unity “commands a blessing” from God. Unity is vital in revival. Lack of unity often stunts and prematurely ends movements of God. Take a moment to pray along with Jesus for unity in his church—that people in the world would see our love for one another, and turn to him.
