Ježíš zatím stanul před prokurátorem. Ten se ho zeptal: „Tak ty jsi židovský král?“ „Sám to říkáš,“ odpověděl mu Ježíš. Na žaloby vrchních kněží a starších pak ale vůbec neodpovídal. „Neslyšíš, z čeho všeho tě obviňují?“ zeptal se ho Pilát. Ježíš ale k prokurátorovu velikému překvapení vůbec na nic neodpovídal.
