Reminders of God’s Truth and PowerMostra

If the nations owe their existence to God, and if the laws by which they are governed depend upon His truth, it follows that He must take a strong personal interest in the administration of their day-to-day affairs. This is what the apostle means when he says that there is no authority except from God. Whether they know it or not, the people who stand at the top of the social and political pyramid are acting as His appointed delegates. The very concept of authority is grounded in the reality of His sovereign will. Do I respect human authorities as representatives of the sovereign Lord?
Father, You are the great King from whom the whole family in heaven and earth takes its name (EPH.3.14). The rulers of this world are only tools in Your hand, instruments through whom You accomplish Your sovereign purposes (ISA.45.4); You turn their hearts whichever way You wish (PRO.21.1). Help me to honor You by respecting the dignity of their office. Teach me to cooperate with them in the doing of Your will. My desire is to adorn the doctrine of my Savior in all things by adopting a Christ-like attitude of submission and fidelity (TIT.2.10).
