He’s Paying Attention

Very often I hear people talk as if God isn’t paying attention when they pray. They say things like, “I’ve been seeking the Lord, but He just isn’t answering.” They feel like God’s gone on vacation and they’re just getting His voice mail, or He’s distracted by something else and taken His attention off their case.

They wonder, “Is God paying any attention to what’s going on with me?”

But nothing could be further from the truth! Matthew 10:30 says, “The very hairs on your head are all numbered” (nlt). Think about that. God has counted every hair on your head. Now, if you’re in a relationship with someone who’s counting your hairs, run for your life because that’s obsession! But apparently God is obsessed with you. He loves you so much!

And here’s another thought: when I run a brush through my hair and some fall out, God still knows the number of hairs on my head, which means He’s keeping a running count! And not just my hairs -- He’s numbered the hairs on every head on the planet. That’s about seven billion heads!

Now that’s a God who’s into the details. So don’t think for a moment that He’s not paying attention to your life and the decisions you’re facing. If He knows how many hairs on your head, He knows everything that’s going on with you.

Psalm 40:1 says, “I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry.”

When I read that God “inclined to me” I picture Him leaning forward from His throne, inclining toward me to hear every word, every prayer. First John 5:14 says, “This is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.”

You can have confidence that God is paying attention and He hears you! Imagine praying to a God who wasn’t listening. Some people feel that way. But the Bible shows us that isn’t true.

You can have confidence that He’ll answer every time you ask for His direction. He’s standing by, counting your hairs, poised and ready, willing and able to guide you into every right decision for your life.
