PSALM XXXVIII.
David, in pitifu’ plight, baith saul an’ body, cries uncolie till the Lord till be gude till him an’ help him.
Ane heigh-lilt o’ David’s, till keep the Lord in min’.#Headin o’ Ps 70.
1Wyte me na, Lord, i’ yer lowan wuth;#Ps 6:1 ding me na by i’ yer bleezan torne:
2For deep intil me yer flanes hae taen grip;#Job 6:4 an’ sair ontil me is yer han’ down-borne.
3Nae feck i’ my flesche, fornent yer angir; nae rest#38:3 Heb. lown. i’ my banes, fornent my sin.#Ps 6:2
4For my ain misdeeds hae gane owre my head;#Ezra 9:6; Ps 40:12 like some weary weight, they’re ill till carrie.#38:4 Heb. owre heavy for mysel.
5My dulesome dints gang foich i’ my folly:
6Twafauld am I, an’ cruppen till naething;#Ps 35:14 a’ day lang, I gang dark an’ drearie.#Job 30:28; Ps 42:9; 43:2
7For my lisk it’s pang’d wi’ some fusionless ill; an’ nae soun’ness ava is left i’ my body.
8Feckless am I, an’ forfochten sairly; I sigh wi’ a sab#38:8 or, for till ease my heart. frae the heart i’ my bosom. #Job 3:24; Isaiah 59:11
9O Lord, afore thee is a’ my yirn; an’ my sighan, frae thee it has ne’er been happit.
10My heart dwaums, my pith bides-na wi’ me; na, the light o’ my een, it’s#38:10 Heb. it ’s nae mair wi’ me. gane clean frae me.#Ps 6:7; 88:9
11My joes an’ my frien’s stan’ atowre frae my breinge;#Ps 31:11#Luke 10:31, 32 an’ my blude#38:11 Heb. kinsfolk, or niebors. themsels haud far frae me.
12Wha seek for my life hae girns till lay; wha ettle me ill speak a’ mischieff, an’ pingle on lies the hail day.
13Bot I, like the deaf man, hearken’d nane;#2 Sam 16:10 David tholed weel. an’ e’en like the dum, wha ne’er raxes his mouthe:#Ps 39:2, 9
14I was e’en as the man wha hears-na a sugh; an’ ben i’ whase gab are nae gainsayans.
15For a’ till yerlane I hae lippen’d, O Lord; ye maun speak till me lown, Lord God o’ my ain.
16For quo’ I, Gin they’re fain till see me fa’; gin they haud themsels heigh an my fit slidder!#38:16 David’s ain natural turn was heigh eneugh he tholed scorn ay, waur nor a clour wi’ the swurd.
17For likan till gang am I ay; an’ my dule, it ’s afore me evir.
18For my sin I hae weel setten furth; on the wrang I hae dune, I tak thought wi’ a swither.
19Bot ill-willers#38:19 or, my ill-willers are livin, an’ livin like. on live, are a’ fu’ stark; an’ mony are they, wha mislike me saikless:
20Wha pay me wi’ ill, for gude till themsels; #Ps 35:12 wha seek me wi’ wrang, for my ain weel-doen.#1 John 3:12 Peter taks anither thought o’t. 1 Peter 3:13
21Dinna lea’ me, O Lord, thou God o’ my ain; nor bide frae me far, as the lave are bydan.
22Fy, haste ye till help me, O Lord, my heal-ha’din!
