Practising Obedience

DAY 3 OF 5

Obedience Over Preference

Obedience sometimes means following someone you may not even like. I remember one of my pastors once admitting to me that he didn't like me, but God told him to follow me. So, instead of offence, he chose obedience.

In God’s Kingdom, submission is about alignment, not personality. The person you find difficult could be the one God uses to shape your maturity. We often prefer convenience, working only with those who fit our comfort zones, but God calls us beyond preference.

Even Moses learned this the hard way. When he struck the rock instead of speaking to it, water still flowed, but he lost the reward (Numbers 20:7-12). That story teaches us that results are not proof of right obedience. True obedience brings eternal reward, not only immediate outcomes.

If God has placed you under leadership or direction that stretches you, stay humble. The cost may be pride, but the reward is purpose.

Reflection Questions

  • Are you resisting an instruction because it came through someone you find hard to follow?
  • What do you think God might be teaching you through that relationship?

About this Plan

Practising Obedience

Obedience to God is not always convenient, but it is always worth it. Many times, God calls us to take steps that stretch our faith, challenge our comfort, or even cost us something dear. Yet, every act of obedience opens the door to His reward, His presence, and His purpose for our lives. In this 5-day plan, you’ll learn what it truly means to choose obedience over convenience. You will see how God leads through instructions rather than explanations, and why obedience often requires trust more than understanding. Prepare to be encouraged and challenged.
