Romans 4
Faith Isn’t for Admiring—It’s for Activating
Faith is a beautiful gift—but too often we treat it like a decoration instead of the key to a powerful spiritual transaction.
Imagine a child receiving a dazzling gift card. It’s colourful, shiny, full of promise. But the child only sees the outside. They tuck it away in a drawer, taking it out occasionally to admire how pretty it looks. What they don’t realise is that the card is already loaded. It holds real value—if only they knew how to use it.
Romans 4 tells us the same story in spiritual terms. Abraham believed God, and because of that belief, righteousness was transferred into his account. He didn’t earn it. He didn’t work for it. His righteousness wasn’t a result of perfection—it was the result of faith. “Abraham believed God’s words, and his faith transferred God’s righteousness into his account” (Romans 4:3).
Many believers treat faith like that gift card. We know it’s precious. We hear sermons about it. We even talk about it with others. But deep down, we’re unsure how to use it. So we admire it from a distance while living disconnected from the power that’s already been credited to us.
Romans 4:5 makes it plain: “No one earns God’s righteousness. It can only be transferred when we believe.” There’s nothing left to earn. The righteousness is already there. But it’s accessed by faith—by stepping out, trusting, moving forward even when we’re unsure.
Don’t leave your faith in the drawer. It’s not just beautiful. It’s powerful. It’s loaded.
